The Stadtpfarrturm in Villach
Today it belongs to the Parish of St. James, though the parish has given the town public access to enjoy it as a lookout point; it has been open to visitors since 1993.
The structure was famous even back in the Middle Ages, an Italian chronicler in 1486 writing that this tower was more magnificent than any in all of Venice.
The lower part of the tower remains medieval to this today. Due to damage from fire and earthquakes, it was rebuilt and remodeled several times over the centuries, with today’s look and height dating back to the year 1847.
