Dogna
Here you will find many paths for hiking and climbing.
The name is of Slav origin and probably derives from dolina, but from time immemorial the whole population has been Friulian.
Along the wild Val Dogna you will find rural villages with the typical name of "Chiout" (that is to say, "closed place"), which preserve the oldest houses of the valley.
Dogna is also an ideal destination for mountain biking and First World War enthusiasts: along the homonymous valley, in fact, you will find an important fortified line called "dei Plans", which should have protected the Italian border during the First World War.
In winter, going up the valley, after 2.5 km, in the locality of "Sbombarde", you will see the first and most important ice fall, that of the Ciondaris stream, called Barbapapà: a vertical wall of about 70-80 metres that puts the technical skills of ice climbers to the test. The second fall is on the Poiate stream and is called Tre Piccozze (Three Axes), whereas the third ice fall is on the Bielighe stream.
