Basilica and Bell Tower of Aquileia
Its present structure is substantially the one that was consecrated in 1031 by the patriarch Poppone, who also had the imposing Bell Tower built.
The real jewel of the Basilica of Aquileia is the mosaic floor, the largest in the whole western Christian world, dating back to the first IV century A.D. structure; rich in Christian symbolisms, it represents the triumph of life over death.
Next to the Basilica of Aquileia, there is the so-called Pagan Church and the Baptistery. Of remarkable importance is the Crypt of Frescos, the Excavations Crypt and the so-called Saint Sepulchre, built imitating the sepulchre in Jerusalem.
