The Friuli Botanical Park “Cormor” of Udine is a municipal park and botanical garden built between 1990 and 1993 designed by the architect Roberto Pirzio Biroli. Created in a disused and degraded site on the urban outskirts, it represents a virtuous example of land recovery and local flora and fauna enhancement. The Park covers an area of 30 hectares and is bordered for its entire length by the Cormor creek (from which it takes its name) whose vegetation, typical of the area affected by the creek, has been enhanced and protected by this work of natural recovery. The park is characterized by a wide variety of tree plant species and the presence of several permanent meadows, which you can admire in total tranquillity and relaxation along the numerous pedestrian and cycle paths in the park. Near the entrance, there is the Pavilion of Meetings, an architectural work of excellence that won the European “Piranesi” award and is included in the world section of “The Best Buildings in the World”.
Nearby there is a shopping centre, stadium, sports centre, and the Rizzi district with ice cream parlours, taverns and commercial activities. Walking on you will pass through San Domenico and the Villaggio del Sole district where, in Piazzale Carnia, the local market is held (Wednesday 8.00 am-12.00 pm). There are also bars, a local shop and hardware for every need. Nearby there is the Ardito Desio park, a destination for skateboard enthusiasts and Street Art artists.
