Bad Gastein - Bischofshofen

Leaving Bad Gastein, there is a steep downhill as one goes towards Bad Bruck. Continue to go north, past the Gasteiner Ache, towards Bad Hofgastein and you will arrive in the heart of the famous and enjoyable spa town of Dorfgastein. The valley is truly enjoyable.

Gastein Valley includes a vertical drop of 200 meters. There is also a 1.5 km tunnel that you will have to ride through but if you would like there is a train one can take or a bike taxi for this section.

The next section, we will pass the country seat of St. Johann im Pongau – a rewarding detour can be taken here to the neo-Gothic “Pongau Cathredral” which stands in the middle of Oberer Markt. From Schwarzach to Biscofshofen, there is a leisurely bike ride along the Salzach, which at this point is mostly regulated by dams.

Our constant companions are the mountains of the Salzburg Alps. In Gastein Valley, views of the glaciated peaks of the Hohe Tauern mountains reveal themselves before our eyes. The bike path leads us alongside reservoirs to Bischofshofen.
